About us

Expectant mothers will be automatically referred into the health visiting service.

New mothers requiring breastfeeding support can be referred into the service by:

  • A health visitor
  • A GP
  • Nurses in hospital settings
  • Any healthcare professional

Antenatally, the local midwifery teams will provide details of your expected date of delivery to the local health visiting teams. We use this information to make contact with you when you are pregnant.

When your baby is born, the health visiting team will receive automatic notification from the hospital. A health visitor will make contact with you and arrange to meet with you. At this visit, you will be able to discuss with  your visiting health visitor how often you would like to be seen and where this contact happens. Sometimes you may prefer to see the health visitor in the clinic, children’s centre, your home or somewhere that will suit you best.

If you move into the area after your child is born, your new GP will let us know you have registered and we will make contact within 14 days of receiving the information from your new GP practice.

Should your child be over five years of age, the School Nursing service will receive details that you child has transferred into school. You can contact the School Nursing team directly should you wish to make enquiries regarding any aspects of your child’s health.
