Clinical psychologists provide, for example, psychotherapy and psychological testing, and help towards making a diagnosis when appropriate. The clinical psychologist will also have knowledge and training in a range of therapeutic approaches. Clinical psychologists are sometimes involved in research, consultation, teaching and supervision of other professionals as well as the training of trainee clinical psychologists.

The clinical psychologist in the CAMHS team will often see children and young people who are referred to the service with complex difficulties that require a thorough assessment. The psychologist will assess needs through interviews, psychometric tests and observations and will share their understanding of the difficulties and plan with you and your family the most appropriate form of treatment.
